Five self-governing nations, one Modern Treaty.
Maa-nulth are five distinct Nations, united in the Maa‑nulth Treaty to strengthen self-government, sovereignty and to build a strong future.
Who We Are
The Maa-nulth Treaty Society supports the Maa‑nulth Nations, five self-governing First Nations on Vancouver Island’s west coast, in the implementation of the Maa‑nulth Treaty.
Rooted in tradition, united by Treaty
Each Maa-nulth Nation is self-governing and culturally distinct. The Treaty Society supports collective treaty implementation while honouring each Nation’s sovereignty, identity, and path forward.
The Treaty Nations
Teachings that guide us
Grounded in principle, guided by responsibility
Our approach reflects the sacred principles of ʔiisaak, hišḥukʷiš cawaak, and ʔuuʔałuk. These values shape how we relate, steward and care for each other, the land, and future generations.
Treaty Rights in Practice
Treaty rights empowering the Nations
From fisheries to forestry, education to economic growth, culture and heritage to health and wellness, treaty rights support self-determination and intergovernmental collaboration.
Living Tradition
Culture shapes every
step of the journey
Each Maa‑nulth Nation carries its own stories, songs, language, and traditions.
